by S. Wade Hansen by John Jagerson Learning How to Put This Week's News to Work in Your Portfolio If you’re into watching economic frothiness, this is getting good. Prop your feet up and pop the popcorn. Our favorite watchdog, Elizabeth Warren (Chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel on TARP), made the rounds yesterday calling for the Fed to run the bank stress tests again. Now. Turns out we’ve already exceeded many of the dire scenarios the Fed used to test the banks (like assuming a “worst-case” 8.9% unemployment – we’re already at 9.5%). So despite previous practice failures and capital shoring it appears the banks may yet be, uh, fallible. Strange, then, that the banks are moving so quickly to pay back their TARP funds. Economic intrigue at its best! What should be most concerning to us citizens is that we only know some of what the Fed tested, not all of it. "They need to give us more information,” says watchdog Warren. “When you've got more information, you've got confidence.” We couldn’t agree more. That’s why we’ve spent the past week spreading our own brand of visibility, giving you the truth behind unemployment reports and debating whether the Fed is actually printing money. You want more information, Elizabeth? Then take a look at all the articles and videos published on Learning Markets in the past week. As always, they’re just as fresh today as when we first ran them.
