Podcast: Reversal Pattern on the S&P 500 and the Yield Curve

Learning How to Put This Week's News to Work in Your Portfolio

Things get heated in the Learning Markets garage when we talk about the financial media. To wit: on the shop table this morning we were dissecting the latest Forbes Magazine. We noticed an article making, “The Case for Bonds.” But then, right there under the Forbes, we see Tuesday’s Wall Street Journal making exactly the opposite case (“Bonds Face Future – And Cower!”). This is when we shake our fists like little old men and bellow, “just the kind of thing that makes me craaazy!”

These are not advisers making picks or pundits making calls; these are honest-to-goodness journalists reporting the news. So what should we believe? That Treasurys consistently perform better than stocks. (True!) Or that the party’s over and we should bail on Treasurys altogether? We say just believe in yourself. Learn to understand the yield curve and stagflation so you can analyze the news, not rely on it. Podcast: TARP Paybacks, Price Patterns and Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs)
