by S. Wade Hansen by John Jagerson Learning How to Put This Week's News to Work in Your Portfolio We love deciphering Fed-speak. It’s like trying to read the disclaimers at the bottom of your online broker’s sign-up page. Only Fed-speak actually means something. It’s a puzzle worth solving. Take, for example, Chief Bernanke’s comments yesterday: “The possibility that the recent stabilization in household spending will prove transient is an important downside risk to the outlook.” The message is simple. Things seem to be stabilizing but we’re watching consumer spending. We recommend you do the same. If you think about it, our ability to spend is a function of all the other economic elements, including job losses, manufacturing inventories, housing starts, and even imports and exports. We can help you look at the world through this prism of consumer spending. You’ll better understand unemployment numbers and inflation and will make better diversification decisions, too.
